The magazine that I am analyzing is SLAM magazine. They are a basketball magazine that does every type of basketball high school, college, and pros. The cover features Zion Williamson in his high school jersey. They put him in front of the magazine title,but in front of the story blurbs. They use bigger block font for the cover story, and smaller font for the accessory stories. There are not many ads in SLAM, about 35% of the pages. The circulation number is 110,000

The layout of this cover features LeBron James. He is holding a camera, which plays off the title "Whose focus is the sharpest?" The colors utilized are mostly darker colors on a white background. The designer probably did this to allow the titles to pop when you first look at them. all kinds of advertisements are in the magazine, but they are mostly targeted to men. The circulation number for this magazine is 2.15.

The magazine that I am analyzing is Sports Illustrated.  The cover layout has a big picture of the feature athlete, Julio Jones, in the middle. It puts him in front of the title, to give him the center stage. It does put his name in front of him so that you know who he is. They use a black background with smoke. This makes him look like a superhero, which is the point of the main article. The ads in this magazine go every other page almost throughout the entire magazine. The distribution number is 2.75 million.

Project Selection-My Decision

I have selected the magazine for my project. The main reason that I chose this is that I have more experience with this than a film. I have made magazines for projects before, but not films. I'm also more experienced in computer design than acting. These skills would make me doing a magazine way easier. The type of magazine that I will be doing is a high school sports magazine. The specific issue that I will have is the Fall sports, such as football and cross country. My partner, Dana Rollings will be doing the winter sports, like basketball and soccer. Our magazine will be called 941 Sports, after the area code of our city.

Project Selection-Film

I have enjoyed watching movies for as long as I can remember, so learning about how they are made is interesting for me. In class we watched the Inside Story:Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which shows how they made the movie from the perspective of the actors and directors. The insight that that gave me got me interested in possibly making a movie. I also see films as the top source of entertainment in the world. However, some challenges that I would face in the film making is that I have little filming experience. In addition, I don't have any acting experience, which makes a bad combination.

Project Selection-Magazine

I've always liked reading magazines, whether it be at the doctors office or at home. The articles give me perspectives from different people, which interests me. In my media studies class we have watched "All the Presidents Men", which showed hardcore reporting on the Nixon case, showed how reporting can be used for good. Some skills that I have that would help me make a good magazine would be that I am personable. Most people enjoy talking to me, so I believe that I would be good at interviewing people. One major challenge that I will face is that I'm not great with graphic design. This may hold back the design of the magazine unless I improve on this skill.
